San Miguel El Salvador 2001 (ERNAL)
The Mw 7.7 San Miguel earthquake occurred in the San Salvador area, El Salvador, at 17:33 UTC (11:33 a.m., local time) on 13 January 2001. The earthquake exposed the high seismic risk in urban areas in El Salvador, at least 944 people were killed, 5,565 injured, 108,261 houses destroyed and more than 1,155 buildings damaged in El Salvador. More than 600 of the deaths were caused by large landslides in Las Colinas area, in the El Balsamo Mountain, La Libertad department. Damage and injuries occurred in every department of El Salvador.
